This week we started harvesting the plavac mali from our island’s south slopes!<\/p>\n

The steep southern slopes, bathed in sunlight and sea breezes, are Hvar’s most famous vineyards, extending from Zavala, Medvid Bod, Ivan Dolac and Jagodna to Sv. Nedjelja.<\/p>\n

Despite the harsh climate, grapes from the “Hvar Beaches” are of very good quality!<\/p>\n

The most famous wines from these positions have evocative names such as Ivan Dolac (PZ Svir\u010de i Vujnovi\u0107)<\/strong>, named after the village famous for its beautiful pebble beaches, \u00a0Plovac Plo\u0161ki (Cari\u0107)<\/strong>, meaning “Plavac from the beach<\/em>“,\u00a0Medvid (Dubokovi\u0107)<\/strong>\u00a0named after the Medvid Bod, a hidden beach maybe the most beautiful of all, which once was home to the\u00a0Mediterranean monk seal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Or they may simply be named Plavac, as in Plavac mali\u00a0barrique (Tomi\u0107) or<\/strong>\u00a0Zlatan Plavac (Plenkovi\u0107).<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n
